To Birtley yesterday for the unusual treat of enjoying three games for just three quid.
The Northern Leagues United day was raising funds for both Birtley Town and Cobaltore Onagawa, a Japanese club from the area of that country devastated by this year's tsunami.
The highlight of the day, I'm using the term loosely, was a clash between Northern League Fans and a motley collection of Football Writers.
Such twitter and blog luminaries as @gibfootballshow, @thefootyblognet and @STVGrant were on hand to prove that theoretical knowledge often endures a tortuous translation to practical ability, the fans securing the ExectalkSports Onagawa Cup with a 6-3 win.
Not since an earlier run in with Hibs legend
Paul Kane's belly have I seen football shirts suffering such strain.
Cracking day though, topped off by a refreshingly no-nonsense bar.
Andrew Gibney of gibfootballshow was on hand to record a
podcast of the post-match reaction, including me in the much more comfortable role of pundit.
